Kaohsiung Police Interview Notice: 3 Steps to Prepare and Find the Right Precinct

If you receive a Kaohsiung police interview notice, first confirm the reporting address, the unit handling the case, and whether you are being interviewed as a suspect or a witness. A precinct headquarters, its investigation team, and a local police station may be at different addresses. Use the directory below to identify the unit, then follow the reporting location on your notice or the updated location confirmed by the issuing unit. kcpd.kcg.gov.tw

1. Check Your Kaohsiung Police Interview Notice Before You Leave

Look for the agency name, reporting date and time, street address, and any floor or room number. If you were contacted only by phone or the details are unclear, call the unit using the number published in the official police directory. Ask which office you should report to, what the case concerns, and in what capacity you are being asked to attend.

A precinct name alone does not tell you where the interview will take place. For example, the Sanmin Second Precinct investigation team and its traffic unit are listed at different addresses. Even when two units share a building, they may use different floors. kcpd-sanmin-second.kcg.gov.tw

★If you cannot attend, contact the issuing unit promptly and confirm whether it has agreed to a new appointment. Under Article 71-1 of Taiwan’s Code of Criminal Procedure, if a suspect fails to appear after lawful notice without a valid reason, police may ask a prosecutor to issue an apprehension warrant. Requesting a change does not, by itself, change the appointment. law.moj.gov.tw

2. Find Your Reporting Location: 17 Kaohsiung Precincts, Police Headquarters, and the Criminal Investigation Corps

The directory lists headquarters addresses for all 17 precincts, plus the city police headquarters and the Criminal Investigation Corps. Unit names follow the police department’s bilingual directory. Address lines use Chunghwa Post’s English mailing format, with English only. The postal lookup is linked below if you need the full postal code for mailing. kcpd.kcg.gov.tw

3. Prepare for Questioning and Decide Whether to Bring a Lawyer

Bring the notice, identification, and any documents the issuing unit asks you to bring. If you consult a lawyer beforehand, prepare a short timeline and identify any original messages, transaction records, or other materials that may help explain what happened. Keep the full records and avoid editing or deleting relevant material.

3.1 Confirm your role and understand your rights

If police question you as a suspect, Articles 95 and 100-2 of the Code of Criminal Procedure provide for notice of the suspected offenses, the right to remain silent, the right to appoint defense counsel, and the right to request investigation of favorable evidence. If you cannot follow the interview in the language being used, request an interpreter before answering substantive questions. Witnesses and suspects have different procedural rights, so ask for clarification if your role is unclear. law.moj.gov.tw

3.2 Understand what counsel can do during an interview

Under Article 245, defense counsel may generally attend questioning of a suspect, take notes, and express views, subject to statutory exceptions. Counsel can help you understand a question, flag concerns about the procedure, and check whether the written record accurately reflects what you said. You remain the person answering the questions. law.moj.gov.tw

➠If you are a suspect and have already appointed counsel who is not present, tell the officer. Under Article 95, questioning must generally stop in that situation unless you agree to continue. If you have not yet appointed counsel, you can ask to consult a lawyer and exercise your right to remain silent. law.moj.gov.tw

3.3 Check the written statement before signing

Read each answer, or ask for it to be read back in a language you understand. If you said, “I don’t remember who sent the message,” check that the record does not say you identified the sender. Ask for omissions or inaccuracies to be corrected and for any unresolved objection to be recorded. A careful review is especially useful when the interview involves dates, amounts, account details, or translated answers. law.moj.gov.tw

4. Frequently Asked Questions

Q1 : Can I go to my nearest police station after receiving a Kaohsiung police interview notice?

Go to the location designated by the issuing unit. If the precinct name and the street address seem to point to different buildings, call the unit to confirm where to report before leaving.

Q2 :Does an interview notice mean I have already been charged?

No. A police request to attend questioning is part of an investigation. It does not establish that a prosecutor has filed charges or that a court has found you guilty. Ask whether you are being interviewed as a suspect or a witness. law.moj.gov.tw

Q3 :Can a lawyer attend a police interview with me?

If you are being interviewed as a suspect, you can appoint defense counsel. Counsel may generally attend, take notes, and express views under Article 245, subject to the exceptions in that provision. law.moj.gov.tw

Q4 :What if I cannot attend on the date listed?

Contact the issuing unit, explain why, and confirm whether a new date has been approved. Keep the confirmation and do not assume that leaving a message excuses your absence. law.moj.gov.tw

Q5 :What if I have already signed a statement and noticed an error?

Write down the question, the answer you intended to give, and the discrepancy you noticed. A lawyer can assess whether to submit a clarification or request review of the interview recording through the appropriate procedure. A later clarification does not erase the earlier record. law.moj.gov.tw
